I want to ensure that I have a proper sleep schedule that is more consistent between regular weekdays, at weekends and during holidays.
Sleep is essential. Getting enough sleep reduces stress and can improve a person’s mood. It can help lower the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Women also need more sleep than men do, with research linking this reasoning to multi-tasking. “Women’s brains are wired differently, so their sleep needs will be slightly greater. Women tend to multi-task—they do lots at once and are flexible, and so they use more of their actual brain than men do,” Jim Horne the director of the U.K. Sleep Research Center says. Additionally, if I want to join the 5am club, I need to make sure I’m properly rested.
So how can I ensure deep and quality sleep?
- No screen time for 1 hour before bed. I guess I will be dusting off the old hard back books!
- No eating 2 hours before bed. I’m going to aim for 6pm as my last time to eat.
- Making my bedroom cooler. This is easier to do in the winter as I will just turn the heating off but I might need to look into just sleeping with a sheet in the summer. (I also should warn my family to have hoodies and slippers ready for the mornings as its going to be cold!)
- Block out excess lights. We already have blackout blinds so I’m good to go on this one.
