Do you make your bed every day? I imagine that most people, like myself, will go through stages when they have the capacity to fulfill this seemingly simple task. But there will be other times when just getting out of bed and getting everyone to school/work is the major (or only) goal of the day- that’s ok. That’s life!
Let me start with saying that I do like having my bed made. Even if making my bed is all I achieve on my to-do list that day, I can tick it off mentally. I’m also reminded of this small accomplishment when I make it back into bed that evening.
I like making my children’s beds, as it allows me to gather up any dirty clothes they have ‘hidden’. It also allows me to fix their sheets as it often seems like they been involved in a battle- or an epic tug of war- while they were sleeping and the sheets finished the loser in that struggle.
So this year, I have started off in the make-the-bed camp! I started strong. Beds looked amazing, like I was a nurse in a past life. I was proud of my tight corners and even through the bedding was not ironed (because, really, who has the time or patience for that – sorry mum!) if you didn’t look too hard you wouldn’t have really been able to tell because I had pulled the sheets so tight.

And then my husband joined the bed-making camp followed shortly by my first-born! ‘Amazing!’, I hear you all thinking. But, they were definitely NOT nurses in their past lives. So now (in my opinion) the beds look some where in the middle between made and unmade. But, I’m choosing to embrace the gesture of love and help (and I only straighten the sheets a little bit when they are not looking.)
You may ask what my youngest thinks about bed making. Well, he would much rather take the bed apart to build sheet forts or mattress slides, and he has a real knack of performing this feat just after the bed has been made or freshly washed!
